
These healthier chocolate chip muffins are proof that seniors don’t have to give up chocolate to eat well. Made with whole grains, Greek yogurt, and naturally sweetened options, they’re perfect for breakfast, snacks, or baking with visiting grandkids.
Makes:12 muffins
½ cup whole wheat flour
⅔ cup all-purpose flour
⅓ cup granulated sugar
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 large eggs
½ cup Greek yogurt
½ cup unsweetened milk of choice
¼ cup applesauce, oil, or mashed banana
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a standard 12-cup muffin tin.
In a large bowl, mix flours, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and chocolate chips.
In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, yogurt, milk, applesauce, and vanilla.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir just until combined—do not overmix.
Divide batter evenly among muffin cups.
Bake 12–15 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
